Why You Should Submit an Abstract to PowderMet2027/AMPM2027

If you are working in powder metallurgy, particulate materials, metal powders, or metal additive manufacturing, PowderMet2027/AMPM2027 is one of the most important places to share your work. Hosted by the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF), this event brings together the PM industry from June 20–23, 2027, in Buffalo, New York, combining PowderMet2027 and AMPM2027 into one major conference experience.

The Center for Powder Metallurgy Technology (CPMT) recently supported an Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E) meeting at the University of Utah. During this meeting professors and students presented the latest developments in their project “Producing Steel Directly from Iron Ore Concentrate” using a hydrogen reduction melt-less steelmaking (HRMLES) process. Participants were also treated to a tour of the facility and witnessed the process in action.

The Metal Powder Industries Federation is seeking nominations for the 2027 MPIF Distinguished Service to Powder Metallurgy Award. This award recognizes those who devoted the major part of their working careers to one or more segments of PM, and whose long-term contributions and achievements deserve special recognition for outstanding and distinguished service. To receive consideration by the MPIF Awards Committee, candidates must have the following qualifications:

• Have been active in one or more of the segments of the North American powder metallurgy industry
• At least 25 years of PM service by nomination date, retirees are also eligible.
• Be reasonably well known in the industry; that is, outside his or her own company, institution or region.

Recipients will receive their awards at the PowderMet2027 conference in Buffalo, NY, June 20–23.

Deadline for nominations is September 30, 2026.

Ames National Laboratory, Ames, Iowa, has established a new refractory metal powder atomization system designed to help researchers develop materials for extreme environments, including next-generation gas turbines and fusion energy systems.

The Elmet Group Company, Portland, Maine, announced a $450 million committed investment from the U.S. Department of War to expand U.S. tungsten manufacturing and strengthen allied supply chains for critical materials. Scientists at the International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials, an autonomous institute under India’s Department of Science and Technology, have developed a new bi-layered dental implant that combines the strength of titanium with the tooth-like appearance of zirconia in a single integrated structure.

PMG Pennsylvania, Philipsburg, Pennsylvania, part of the global Powder Metal Goldschmidt Group, has announced a third major expansion to the original structure that was established in 2003.
