NEW PM NANOCRYSTALLINE ALUMINUM COMPOSITES
Working with the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) and Case Western Reserve University, Powdermet, Inc., Euclid, Ohio, has developed a non-cryomilling process for making PM aluminum composites with stable nanocrystalline grain structures. The PM materials offer lower weight, higher strength, and increased hardness compared to currently used aluminum alloys, without relying on rare-earth or other costly foreign-sourced alloying elements, the company says.
