Basic PM Short Course Registration Opens

The powder metallurgy (PM) industry's longest running course, the Basic PM Short Course, is back this year to bring together employees seeking to enhance their depth of PM knowledge and advance their careers. Held at Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel, State College, Pa., August 15–17, 2017, this is the ideal place to delve into PM and an excellent opportunity to ask industry experts questions on this innovative technology.

The Basic PM Short Course features three days of programming focusing on:

  • History, current practice, and the future of PM.
  • Why PM is a leading method for producing metal parts.
  • The many applications that use PM parts.
  • The fine points in designing for PM.
  • How metal powders are produced.
  • Designs for compacting tools.
  • How sintering develops functional properties.
  • About various secondary operations.
  • About the Metal Powder Industries Federation standards and tests.
  • About metal injection molding.
  • The latest high-tech PM technologies, including metal additive manufacturing (3D printing).

"The annual Basic PM Short Course is an industry highlight," states Dan Messina, technical services manager, Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF). "It's one of the few opportunities for those new to the industry to interact one-on-one with industry leaders, because these experts will be teaching throughout the course."
