Process Technology Engineer

Description:
As part of the Consarc Technology Team, you will work in a collaborative group to have a strategic overview of Consarc's equipment & related processes with responsibility for ongoing product & process development, customer support & technical sales support. Major process equipment includes Vacuum Induction Melting (VIM) furnaces, VIM Inert Gas Atomizers (VIGA), VIM Strip Casters (VIM-SC), Vacuum Precision Investment Casters (VPIC), Remelt Furnaces (VAR & ESR), & Heat Treaters (VHT & VAB). This position will focus on the advancement & support of technologies in rapid solidification (VIGA & VIM-SC) & novel VIM melting for applications such as critical minerals, additive manufacturing, & specialty metals production. In this role, the applicant will be expected to work across disciplines & teams to provide essential support & ensure that the company is at the forefront of new technologies.

Primary Responsibilities:
• Advise customers virtually & in-person on equipment troubleshooting, melting practices, operation of equipment, safety, specific material/alloy production practices, process analysis & optimization, & process control issue resolution.
• Assist in on-site equipment commissioning, hot testing, training, & managing contractual acceptance testing including downstream metallurgical evaluation of the material produced (e.g. macro-/micro-cleanliness, grain defects, powder size/shape/yield, etc.)
• Manage the advancement of equipment design & process controls, including developing equipment for custom metallurgical applications, defining process control profiles, collaborating with the Design Engineering team, & training end users on operation.
• Evaluate end-user requirements to determine equipment feasibility, evaluate final process & metallurgical acceptance criteria for equipment, & work with internal teams to recommend engineering solutions considering technical functionality, cost, schedule, & capability.
• Attend industry conferences & meetings to stay abreast of advances, maintain customer relations, & publish/present technical papers.

Required Qualifications:
• 3+/10+/15+ years of industry experience with atomization, strip casting, vacuum or air melting, casting, remelting (VAR/ESR), heat treatment, or other metallurgical processes.
• Ability to work with U.S. Export Controlled products, processes, & information.
• Self-motivated, independent, & outgoing with technical, analytical, decision-making, & communication skills.
• Experience in production or research & development of metals & advanced material processing including familiarity with industry specifications for materials, processing, & testing (e.g. ASTM, AMS, DIN, etc.) Desired Experience:
• Industrial experience in a melt shop, vacuum heat treatment, aerospace manufacturing, or equipment manufacturing.
• Operation & process improvement of VIM, atomization, strip casting, vacuum investment casting, VAR, and/or ESR.
• An understanding of ferrous & nonferrous metallurgy in wrought, casting, or powder metallurgy products.
• Research in the fields of atomization, rapid solidification, process metallurgy, &/or industrial equipment
• Development of technical documentation such as procedures, work instructions, manuals, white papers, & research papers.
