New PM Video Series Launched

"Introducing Powder Metallurgy and the PM Industry," the first video in a series of four educational videos focused on PM, has been released by the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF). The video is hosted by industry leader John Engquist, FAPMI, past president of the Center for Powder Metallurgy Technology (CPMT), and covers a brief history of PM, followed by a discussion on market segments, common applications, the technical advantages of using PM, and a brief overview of PM processes.

Advanced Lightweight AM Curriculum at Cincinnati State

Lightweight Innovations for Tomorrow and America Makes, the National Additive Manufacturing Innovation Institute, have announced an initiative with Cincinnati State Technical and Community College (CSTCC) to develop an open-source curriculum to provide both incumbent workers and new students with knowledge and hands-on training in advanced lightweight additive manufacturing.

The Metal Powder Industries Federation's Industry Development Board has completed a redesign of the PickPM.com website—a site used to promote the powder metallurgy (PM) industry through educational resources and by putting component designers and engineers in touch with component fabricators. With this relaunch, numerous application case studies, technical data, white papers, and additional resources work together to provide a detailed overview of why component engineers and designers should pick powder metallurgy over other metal-forming solutions.

NSF Student Grant Supports Powder Metallurgy Industry

Do you know a student interested in learning more about the powder metallurgy industry? The National Science Foundation has announced the approval of a grant program to support 40 students from U.S. institutions to attend POWDERMET2017: International Conference on Powder Metallurgy & Particulate Materials in Las Vegas, Nev., June 13–16, 2017. Students must meet certain eligibility requirements but, if selected, the grant will cover the full-conference registration fee (including the opening and closing events and two luncheons) and a three-night hotel accommodation in double occupancy.
