Specialty-alloy producer and distributor Carpenter Technology Corporation, Wyomissing, Pa., has reported net income of $23.6 million or $0.52 per diluted share, including $2.4 million or $0.05 per share of costs related to the acquisition of Latrobe Specialty Metals, for the quarter ended December 31, 2011. Net income was $9.3 million or $0.21 per share in the same quarter a year earlier. Second-quarter net sales excluding raw material surcharge were $330.3 million, up 19% from $277.0 million a year earlier.

Kennametal Inc., Latrobe, Pa., has reported a record fiscal 2012 second-quarter earnings per diluted share (EPS) of $0.91, compared with prior-year quarter reported EPS of $0.52. Sales for the quarter were $642 million, compared with $566 million last year, the increase being primarily as a result of organic growth of 14 percent.
