Formed under the auspices of the Metal Powder Industries Federation—the PM industry’s trade association—and administered by that organization’s staff in the same facility, APMI grew to become a highly respected professional society helping advance the science and practice of powder metallurgy. As membership grew in various localities in North America, and eventually throughout the world, local chapters were formed in order to facilitate the face-to-face member interaction so vital for knowledge transfer. Two of the most visible and longest-lasting benefits APMI members have come to rely on over the years have been the Who’s Who in PM and the International Journal of Powder Metallurgy. These publications have been instrumental in helping the industry grow while at the same time they themselves have grown in stature. With the growth of the Internet and its reach into every facet of life, and business in particular, APMI has taken advantage of these capabilities to make our resources, including the Journal, accessible to any member who is online.
